About Sean

Sean Michael Elwell has been a lifelong resident of Salem County and a proud member of the Elsinboro community for the last 35 years. He is the son of Michael and Loretta Elwell, and brother of Andrew Elwell. Sean is the Grandson of former Elsinboro Mayor Lee Lark Sr. and the late Loretta Lark. He is also the grandson of the late Dr. Ken Elwell.

Sean graduated from Elsinboro Elementary School in 1998 as the class Salutatorian. In 2002 he graduated from Salem High School where he served as the National Honor Society President. Sean graduated from Cumberland County College in 2007 with an A.A.S. in Nursing and from Drexel University in 2012 with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 2012, Sean graduated with his Master's degree from Drexel University in Leadership in Health Systems Management, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Sean also completed a certificate program from Rutgers University in 2009 as a Certified Municipal Elected Official. Sean is employed at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware, where he has worked for the past 20 years. He is a Registered Nurse and has served in various leadership roles. He is currently the Director of the Trauma Program, the Critical Care Transport Team, and Emergency Services. Sean is responsible for daily department operations, including overseeing over 240 direct reports. Sean was elected nationally to the position of President for the Society of Trauma Nurses. Sean has been featured in numerous news articles detailing his accomplishments in Injury Prevention. In addition Sean has also been featured in nationally televised injury prevention messages, and spoken on the topic throughout the east coast. Sean also serves as the coordinator of pre-hospital education and is involved in EMS activities throughout the region. After being nominated by his peers, Sean was selected as the July 2009 Employee of the Month for the hospital and Employee of the Year for 2009.

Sean is a member of the Elsinboro Fire Company and Ambulance Squad, where he has been an active member for the past 18 years. Sean is a Nationally Certified EMT, Firefighter, and Rescue Scuba Diver, as well as a Basic Life Support CPR Instructor and teaches many Emergency Medical Service courses. Sean Elwell is also a member of the Elsinboro Municipal Alliance, serving as past secretary, a member of the Salem County Fireman’s Association, the Salem County Ambulance/Captains Association, and the Salem County Fire Chiefs Association. Sean is involved with the New Castle County Safe Kids, specializing in injury prevention, where he is a certified child passenger safety seat technician. Sean is the past Chairman of New Castle County Safe Kids and the past Chair for Safe Kids Delaware Board of Directors. In addition, Sean recently served as the President for the Salem County Association of Local Government, is on the Board of Directors for the New Jersey Conference of Mayors, and is on the Executive Board for the New Jersey League of Municipalities.

Sean has served the residents of Elsinboro Township for the past 15 years, spending 4 years as Deputy Mayor and the last 11 years as Mayor. As Mayor, Sean oversees all township appointed committees and is currently the Chair of the Administration Committee, Chair of the Community Development Committee, and Chair of the Board of Health. Sean actively participates in all township committee activities and has spearheaded the application for several grants benefitting Elsinboro Township. He is eager to find ways to remain fiscally responsible during these challenging economic times. As Mayor, Sean has been very active in the community and implementing new initiatives including:the Oakwood Beach Project, Caught You Being Safe, Elsinboro Gets Walking, Mornings with the Mayor, and the Mayor's Book Club. Of Sean’s major concerns, are maintaining a stable tax rate in Elsinboro, promoting transparency, sustaining the quality of living, and embarking on new projects. Sean is dedicated to the people of Elsinboro, and takes pride in everything that he does.
